Aubrey's Chick Flick Review

Hi this is Aubrey! Mom and I saw Penelope a week early. It was a funny movie. It's about a curse on a girl named Penelope. The curse is ,Penelope has a pig snout for a nose. It's a great movie for girls that love fairy tales. Mom and I loved the guy that had a eye patch. He was also in the movie Elf. He got it because the mom punched him in the eye. At the end of the movie I had to talk to a girl about the movie. I had to tell her if I liked it or not. Mom and I LOVED it so I got a movie poster. [The picture is the posture.]

Mom's Note: We don't go to movies all the time, but I had won tickets to the advanced screen of this one. So Aubrey and I woke up early and headed to the theater. I liked the movie because it has a good message for young girls. Basically the movie is about being happy with who you are, and don't worry about how you look on the outside. It's whats inside that counts!

Zach's Movie Review

Hi again, its Zach. This time me and my friends saw Vantage Point. This was an action thriller about the assassination of the President of the United States by a Spanish terrorist group. Seen from eight different perspectives, this thriller has plenty of twists and turns that will keep you on your seat. I give this movie 7.5 out of 10 stars. The movie was very good and had a lot of action and adventure. Without ruining anything for you, the special effects are great and the plot intricate and engaging. The plot seemed like it was something out of a Tom Clancy novel. Finally, the movie wraps up in an amazing car chase that kept me on the edge of my seat. One of the things I didn't like was that because of the constant flashbacks, you ended up seeing the same scene more than once. Also, some flashbacks where totally unnecessary. The next fatal flaw was the language in the movie. Without going into specifics, it seems as though the main characters only had one word to describe an immediate threat, and once, character even drops the F-bomb. Finally, the main Secret Agent, Agent Barnes; suffers from superheroitis, meaning he can never be killed by anything! If you liked the techno-thrillers such as Bourne Ultimatum or Mission Impossible 3 go see this movie!

Zach's Movie Review

So today was Presidents Day and our family went to Spiderwick Chronicles. This is a movie about a dysfunctional family that finds themselves in the middle of a magical world. I give this movie a 8 out of 10 stars. When you see this movie, don't expect anything new or ground breaking. The movie takes the best of the early Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia movies. The movie has the classic dysfunctional family with two brothers and a sister. Nothing really unique is found in this movie. But, it was a pretty good movie. The CGI was perfect and the actors where believable. One of the coolest things I found was Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, August Rush) playing identical twins with an American accent. The movie had a good mixture of action and fantasy combined with a good message. Be warned though, some scenes may be frightening to young children, so use discretion, but if your children could handle Lord Voldemort, you'll be a-okay. Overall, see this movie with your family, and mabye even buy it.
Looking forward to Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda,
Zach

Valentine Celebration

Don and I finally celebrated Valentine's Day. When we were first married, we really didn't feel the need to do anything special for Valentine's Day. (Come on, it is a holiday created by Hallmark, candy makers, and florests to make money.) Now that we have 4 kids and life is so busy, we decided we need do something special. So we went out to dinner. We went to:

We love this place. It is in Ceaser's Palace. It has the best Italian food I have ever tasted! It is a special treat when we go here. Let's just say, the last time we went here was two years ago. For Valentine's Day I gave Don a new video game, (Sometimes a guy has to blow some stuff up to relax!) and Don gave me a new bracelet. We had a fun time.

Zachery's Turning Point

HELLO!! It's Zach. Today marked a very important turning point in my life. That's right! I got a Library Card! I've often heard that this marks the point where a young boy becomes a man. I am so excited to harness the power and freedom that comes with the ability to check out books by myself and with my own free will! Oh, and I also got my permit. It's pretty cool but my birthdate is all wrong. So yeah, it might not be good to travel on the sidewalks now.

Survivor Week 2

Alright I know, I did nothing for Valentine's Day. Well actually that isn't true. I did help out at Ian's kindergarten party and clean the upstairs of my house. I know, how romantic. Don ran to the scout office for tour permits. I did get a dozen roses, and Don received a new video game. This Saturday we are going to dinner. My kids got a ton of candy from school, grandparents, and from us. I swear, it looks like Halloween all over again! Then of course, our favorite thing to do. We watched Survivor. Poor Austin lost Mary but he picked up Erik. Now we all have three survivors. The game is on. One thing we love about Survivor is the shock on people's faces when they don't think they are getting voted off, but they get voted off! We just laugh and laugh!

Wedding Bells are Ringing!

Finally the day is here. Our nephew Wesley is getting married Monday! Now I say finally because this poor couple had to post-pone their wedding by a week! They were suppose to be married in the Rexburg Temple last week, but with President Hinckley's death, the Rexburg Temple was not dedicated. So this couple decided to move their wedding to the next weekend. They will still be the first couple sealed in the Rexburg Temple. Don took off this morning for Idaho. His flight was early in the morning. He is not looking forward to the cold and snow but he is looking forward to seeing his nephew sealed. We just wanted to welcome Alyssa to the family! We are looking forward to getting to know her!

Slide Show of President Hinckleys Funeral

I found this slide show of President Hinckley's funeral. http://deseretnews.com/photo/sslides/detail/1,5498,40,00.html?linkTrack=rotator:cvr
It is very good and has such pretty music.

Survivor Fans vs. Favorites Week 1

Yes, it is another season of Survivor! You know the kids, we have to draw names and do our family contest! We each got three survivors with 2 left over. So, the first two people to lose Survivors get to pick from the 2 left overs. So here it goes:
Don: John Fairplay, Chet, Natalie
Kelley: Alexis, Ozzy, Tracy
Zachery: James, Parvati, Amanda
Austin: Joel, Mary, Cirie
Aubrey: Eliza, Kathleen, Jason
Ian: Ami, Mikey, Yau-Man (Ian loves Yau-man. He calls him the sneaky ninja!)
That left Jonathan and Erik. So tonight Don lost John Fairplay and picked up Jonathan. That was a strange show! Did John Fairplay really want to go home or did his plan go bad? We really don't know. You can't trust that guy. The other question is, will Austin win for the third straight time? We will have to see. I think my family is addicted to reality shows. They also love the Amazing Race and American Idol. I have to tape some of the shows because they are on so late, and they need sleep.

New First Presidency!

SALT LAKE CITY 4 February 2008 Thomas S. Monson is the new president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it was announced today at a news conference in the Church Office Building. President Monson, 80, succeeds President Gordon B. Hinckley, who died 27 January.
The new world leader of the Church has called to serve with him in the First Presidency, the top governing body of the 13-million-member faith, President Henry B. Eyring, 74, first counselor, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, 67, second counselor.
President Boyd K. Packer, 83, is the new president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The vacancy in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will be filled later.
Today a new First Presidency was called. We are so excited for these men! They are great leaders and wonderful speakers. The boys and Don were able to hear President Monson speak to all of the scouts in our Church here in Vegas. They loved that day! It was raining all over the valley that day, but when they went out to the speedway to hear him speak there was no rain on that side of town. He is such a wonderful speaker, and he certainly left quite an impression on the boys. I am always impressed with how much President Monson loves people and has such a strong desire to serve everyone! We love President Eyring, he is such a sincere man. President Uchtdorf has incredible life experiences. He is a pilot, and often compares flying planes to gospel principals. Of course, Zachery loves that. What a blessing these men are to our church! We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet!

Superbowl 2008

HELLO! Its Zach yet again. As you probably already know, it was Superbowl Sunday. I'm personally a fan of soccer, but this football game provided some great satisfaction. The whole family got together and watch Superbowl XLII. New England was favored and I personally was cheering for them. But, I was disappointed by a great performance by Eli Manning and Plaxico Burress that ended up beating the Patriots 17-14. I have to give credit to all the New York Giant fans out there: your boys played a great game! Our family had a great time vegging out and eating a myriad of junk food. Boy will I be feeling that at track tomorrow (haha). Anyways, it was a great bonding moment and everybody can't wait for Superbowl XLIII and another Super Sunday!

As Always,

Zach
