When the girls went to dance camp the team learned a Thriller/Zombie dance. It was really good, but I wondered when they were going to perform it. Lucky for them, they had to perform at a football dance the night before Halloween. They also got called by an elementary school to perform it. The girls love this dance so they were super excited to us it a couple of times. Of course they went and got some awesome zombie costumes at Savers. The girls had to pick a character, and Aubrey wanted to be a zombie housewife. These girls totally stayed in character the whole time they were in costume. They were really freaky!
The night of the football game they came over to get ready at our house. Don got them some pizza. Yes, zombies eat pizza.
Sometimes pizza isn't enough. So sometimes the zombies eat little brothers.
The girls were amazing, as always. Unfortunately something happened to their music and it skipped. They were not happy about that, but they remained very professional and held it together. It was awesome.
Listen, lets be real...I bet you don't see a kick line on The Walking Dead!
Here is a video of the girls learning this dance at camp.
Every year, in October, Aubrey's dance team goes to St. George, Utah to go to see Odyssey Dance Company perform Thriller. We love going every year. It is so much fun. It is a creepy Halloween dance show. Sometimes a bit dark. This year, Don came with us. Don and I drove up earlier and had dinner at Pizza Factory. The girls were in the next building having dinner at the Pasta Factory. Then they run outside and take pictures. This phone booth is a favorite.
The Bonanza High School Dance Team went with us this year. Thank heavens! They are the sweetest girls and our team just loved them. Better than the school we went with last year. Aubrey's friend Ashley is on that team. Aubrey and Ashley danced together for years at Bunker. They were so excited to see each other and spend time together. It was like they were never apart. Ashley is honestly the sweetest girl!!! I think it was good for Aubrey to have someone with her who has shared the same experiences and made the same choices concerning dance.
The team loves taking pictures!
Rachel and Aubrey met a new friend! Well, when you go and see the show, there are zombies walking around. This year we thought Ian would love the show. Last minute he said he didn't want to go. He does not like gross things. Halloween is super hard for him. I told him, the zombies weren't bloody. Well last year they weren't. This year....lets just say it was good that Ian didn't come. He went to the trunk-or-treat with Rachel's family.
The show was great. Don really enjoyed it. When I went last year it was super cold. So this year I took our coats, hats, and blankets. Well, I didn't need them at all. I didn't even need a jacket. It is a creepy show, but fun.
Tuachan, is so pretty. This picture doesn't do it justice. The stars were so bright, and the rocks are so red. It is just amazing. It was a fun night.
Sometimes you have a crazy day at school. You know, lots of tests and stuff. Then you come home and find a box on your front door from your grandparents filled with Halloween candy. Suddenly, everything is good. You feel great! Yeah, that's what it feels like when grandparents send candy!!
Today Ian had a Scout Court of Honor. He is doing awesome!!! Don works with him every Sunday, and he is cruising along! Cruising right to his Eagle! I am so grateful Don works with him. He really takes charge of the scouting in our family and it pays off. I am so proud of hard Ian and Don work on scouting. The Scouts have not had a Court of Honor in a long time, so Ian had quite a few merit badges and one rank advancement. I love this picture of his friend Ike giving him his merit badges.
He earned six Eagle badges. H earned camping, emergency preparedness, citizenship in the world, citizenship in the community, swimming, and personal fitness. He earned seven other badges. He earned rifle shooting, soil and water conservation, space exploration, skating, forestry, leatherwork, and music. Then we were surprised to learn that he earned the World Conservation Award because he earned the environmental science merit badge, soil and water conservation merit badge, and citizenship in the world merit badge. I guess when you earn all three of those, you get this special award. Everyone was surprised about this, even his leaders. Who knew? Ian also earned his Star Rank! Don and Ian have been killing it! I am super proud of both of them and so grateful that I have a husband that works so hard on scouting with our son!
This week was homecoming week. It was a crazy busy week. Aubrey is on the dance team, so that meant she was really busy getting ready to perform. First she had the lip sync. They are not able to win the lip sync because they are coached by a dance teacher. They had a good time though. They really loved this lip sync number.
Then they had the Homecoming assembly. They really loved their assembly dance too. I wasn't able to go and see Aubrey in the assembly because I had to work. Don was able to go and see her. I was so glad one of us was there to support her and video it and take pictures. The team looks thrilled as they wait to perform. I swear, they loved their dance. The theme for Homecoming was, "It's All Fun And Games". Each class was a game. For the assembly the girls focused on Candy Land.
The Homecoming Queen is also one of the captains of Fusion and the Student Body President. She is a busy girl. She is also so sweet and kind. The girls were excited that their captain won.
That night was the football game against Cimarron. Funny, that is the school that Don taught at for 12 years. My friend and I helped the girls organize their truck. They decided to do a giant game board. The game pieces had the girls names and each class focused on their game. The Freshmen were Candy Land, Sophomores were Scene It, Juniors were Monopoly, and Seniors were Jumanji. (O, lets be real. Jumanji is a book, not a real game. I guess the Seniors didn't figure that out!) It think it came out pretty good. I have to admit, I was worried! I was worried that everything would fall off the truck! The girls loved the truck, so it was worth it. Also, nothing fell off!

We won the game, and that's important too!
The next day Aubrey started getting ready for the dance. After dance Aubrey went bowling with her date. She had a blast. She was a little mad that they didn't let her use bumpers while she bowled. Then she came home and got ready for the dance. Her friend Rachel came and curled her hair.
Rachel did an awesome job on Aubrey's hair. Aubrey loved her dress. She didn't want any bling and wanted to keep it kind of retro! She looked stunning. The dress was perfect for her. We worried that we wouldn't be able to find her a modest dress, but we did. It was perfect and see looked perfect!
After she was ready, she waited for her date.
Then the time came for her to leave!
This is what is funny, she was so nervous pinning his boutonniere on. So I went over it with her. I told her he would be wearing a suit coat so there was no way she would draw blood. Oh, he came in without a suit coat! Aubrey didn't know what to do. I had to pin it on for her.
Her date was so nice. He was very polite and kind. They were already friends, so there was no awkwardness. She had a wonderful time. She really enjoyed her date!!
It was so fun watching her get ready for the dance. It is so different when you have a girl! When I was sick, I didn't know if I would ever have a moment like this with her. I wondered if I would be alive to see her pick out a dress and go to a dance like this. I felt like this was a mile stone for me. It was a day I just wanted to enjoy! I was so excited for her and I was glad to be around to share this experience with her. I hope I will have many more dances to experience with her and Ian. For now, I am grateful for this homecoming. She was so happy, and had fun.
